Project Controls Manager – Hybrid Working

Leatherhead / Warrington / Cumbria (office/site locations)

3 days per week on site, 2 days per week remote working
 
  1. JOB PURPOSE:
    • Provide management oversight to the project controls team, including cost and planning on EPC projects in addition to monitoring the performance of Consultants and Contractors for CLIENT as required.
    • Employ expertise to create financial and operational solutions that Shape and integrate functional strategies and apply across multiple functional areas.
    • Identify business issues that may impact financial performance of COMPANY CLIENT EPC projects.
    • Direct the resolution of complex business difficulties and Develops business plans to achieve functional or cross-functional objectives
 
  1. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
    • To contribute to the development, updating and maintenance of systems and procedures relating to Project Controls Plans, Basis of Schedule to include Project Planning, Scheduling, Progress Measurement, Progress Reporting, Progress Trending, Progress Certification, consistent with the CLIENT requirements
    • Deploy and manage resources to achieve financial and business objectives across multiple functional areas.
    • Develop, track, update and report on the detailed delivery and installation schedule and budget.
    • Following through active risk management, it protects the COMPANY and CLIENT Projects from unnecessary risks.
    • Work closely with Quality Management to develop, track, update and report on the site quality control and assurance system.
    • Organizes and ensures that potential project scope, schedule or budget changes are immediately identified and addressed.
    • Manage Project Metrics including production and productivity rates and factors.
    • Oversee, track, update and report on the detailed delivery and installation schedule and budget.
    • Manage project review materials and financial forecasting, working with Project Controls.
    • Organizes work to meet deadlines.
    • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and controls the project in accordance with established policies and procedures
    • Oversee reports such as Gantt charts, histograms, PERT charts, Baselines Schedules, S Curves & Progress reports, Critical Path Analysis.  Maintain critical path method and analysis and ensure mitigation plans are proposed to management where appropriate
    • Liaise with CLIENT and associated companies to ensure business objectives are met, keeping them updated on progress, forecasts, and any applicable scheduling changes
    • Supervises daily activities of Project personnel including technical and administrative support and ensures. that deliverables are produced on schedule and within budget.
    • Provides leadership and direction for multiple functional areas or regions
Supervision
    • Where applicable, plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
    • Where appliable; Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.
Budgets
    • Where applicable, support and provide input for preparation of the budgets and assist in the implementation of the approved Budget and work plans to deliver objectives.
    • Where applicable; Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control
Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
    • Implement approved policies, processes, systems, Quality standards and procedures in order to support execution of the work programs in line with international standards.
Performance Management
    • Contribute to the achievement of the approved Performance Objectives in line with the Performance framework.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
    • Where applicable; Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
    • Provide support to identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards in order to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.
Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) and Sustainability
    • Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures & controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and CLIENT Code of Practices.
Reports
    • Provide inputs to prepare progress reports for COMPANY and CLIENT.
 
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal
    • Daily direct liaison with management and all other engineering, operations and project disciplines.
External
    • Regular contact with CLIENT regarding application of service agreement and questions related to technical planning and scheduling issues.
 
  1. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualification
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent Professional Qualification
 
Minimum Experience
    • 20 years of experience, including at least 5 years of experience performing Planning, scheduling / Project Controls activities in the Energy Sector, which may include Oil and Gas, Renewals and Nuclear.
    • Must be in similar position for three years.
 
Knowledge & Skills
    • Security Clearance is required.  If the candidate is not in possession of this, KBR will assist in seeking the Security Clearance.
    • Must hold a UK passport.
    • Good interpersonal and people management skills.
    • Good communication and presentation skills.
    • Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
    • Data Analysis and Presentation: Good analytical, planning, organization, and reporting skills.
    • Data Analysis and Presentation: Advanced Primavera skills and sound knowledge of other planning software and tools.
    • Data Analysis and Presentation: Advanced Excel
    • Data Analysis and Presentation: Ability to produce Level -3 schedules, Manpower histograms, Gantt chart, S-curves with minimum guidance and supervision.

Professional Certifications
    • Not mandatory but any relevant Certification like Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar qualifications would be an advantage.
 
  1. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
    • Good knowledge of the core Project Controls disciplines, but specifically Schedule Management.
    • Good knowledge of baseline development and maintenance of baselines on a programme.
       
  1. WORK CONDITION:
 
Physical Effort Work Environment
  • Attends either the Leatherhead, Warrington office or at the Cumbria site 3 days per week
  • Remote working 2 days per week
  • Normally A/C environment with over 10% of working time spent outdoors, exposed to noise, dust, high humidity and environmental adverse temperature conditions.
