Piping Chief Designer – Onshore LNG Plant (Brownfield and Greenfield)
Position Description:
We are looking for a Piping Chief Designer to work on layout development of greenfield modules and brownfield modifications within an existing Onshore LNG Plant based in Western Australia.
The individual should have relevant experience in equipment / plant layout for an LNG facility and piping design, working with the latest Intergraph Smart 3D software or similar 3D CAD modelling systems. The candidate is required to lead the layout development for piping and the project by coordinating and providing guidance to Area Leads and Piping Designers across all parts of the plant scope. This position is the most senior layout coordination role on the project reporting directly to the Lead Piping Engineer.
The candidate is required to provide oversight and review for modelled equipment, pipework, preliminary structure, civil interfaces, and access/egress routes. A sound knowledge of stress and support requirements within a layout is essential, particularly for the brownfield scope where existing stress models and support locations require special consideration. The project will rely upon laser survey data for migration into the CAD design model, experience of this type of work would be advantageous.
A key responsibility in this role is to provide consistent and continuous coordination with the respective leads for pipe stress engineering and supports to ensure an optimised and efficiently produced piping design and deliverables in accordance with the project schedule.
Additionally, the role entails coordination duties and design lead recommendations with other engineering disciplines such as Structural, Civils, Mechanical, Safety, Mechanical Handling and Process. All work will be conducted to Detail Design level and issue of final construction deliverables.
Regular duties will also include review of project documents, preparation, and involvement in presentation of project Model Reviews at multi-discipline level, checking of plot plans, equipment layouts and all piping fabrication deliverables associated with greenfield Detail Design or brownfield Workpacks.
The position is based in KBR’s Leatherhead Campus. Flexible working can be considered on occasions for certain types of work, however there are expectations that this role will require reasonable office attendance where interaction with the project management team or client is necessary, or for coordination duties at work process management level.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop a 3D CAD model for typical equipment and piping layouts of greenfield modules and brownfield modifications in process and utility areas.
Due consideration given to access requirements for operations, mechanical handling & egress, preliminary structure and foundations, interfaces with underground services as required and pipework routings.
Review construction access for installation and craneage.
Set up work processes and design job notes for the piping team and cross-discipline interfaces.
Coordinate and provide guidance to Area Lead Piping Designers in an advisory and approval capacity.
Coordinate inputs to the layout from pipe stress engineering and pipe support design as part of
the overall layout development.
Manage and satisfy client expectations whilst proactively contributing feedback.
Protect discipline budget and schedule commitments and consult with the Lead Piping Engineer on management of change.
Review and comment on piping and multi-discipline project document reviews.
Provide regular input to piping weight management (where required), MTOs and discipline estimating.
Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines, co-ordinate and develop work process interfaces between Mechanical, Structural and Civils.
Commit to multi-centre project execution strategies and supervision in technical support and coordination roles.
Represent the piping discipline to the client at staged model reviews with the Lead Piping Engineer.
Provide assistance to Piping deliverable production, checking and approvals.
Participate in site visits if requested or site surveys if necessary.
Adhere to KBR WAY engineering standards and procedures as appropriate and provide input to their ongoing development and enhancement.
Skills / Experience:
Essential
Extensive knowledge of Piping Design and Onshore Plant Layout at Detail Design level.
Onshore gas processing and refrigerant plant layout experience.
Greenfield module layout and piping design for installation within an existing plant.
Routing and design considerations of refrigerant pipework and compressors in gas systems.
Experience of Piping design in brownfield applications with an emphasis on site survey, tie-ins, CAD modelling for new and existing pipework definition and consideration of test limit locations.
Past experience of plant layout and piping design responsibility in Area Lead positions.
Experience, or an ability to step-up to, the responsibility of leadership in layout coordination for Area Lead Designers working across the piping team.
A good understanding of the requirements and layout influences from stress and supports in brownfield routings, with an emphasis on tie-in locations for increased loadings, existing support restraints affecting updated pipe stress models and acquiring the appropriate survey data.
Conversant with 3D CAD modelling systems, preferably Hexagon Intergraph Smart 3D. Hands-on experience is not essential as this is a senior design leadership role with modelling support available within the team under your direction.
Interpretation of laser survey data within 3D CAD models for layout and piping updates.
Effective communication skills including the ability to present at design reviews.
Desirable
Conversant with AutoCAD for basic draughting updates or drawing interpretation.
Hands-on CAD modelling experience with Hexagon Intergraph Smart 3D applications.
Qualifications:
Desirable - Engineering Degree (BEng)
Minimum - Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Plant Process Engineering or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
